While there’s no right or wrong ship to book for a cruise vacation, I find myself returning to Quantum Class ships more than other ships in the fleet. The atmosphere, amenities, and layout of these ships match everything I’m looking for in a cruise vacation. Specialty restaurants that incur an extra charge and a la carte food in unusual spots like the bar bites menu in Harp & Horn are not to be missed. On our sailing with a fresh crew, we found the specialty dining food and service was often superior to the included choices. Consider most of the obstructed balcony cabins a last choice unless the price is right.

The Quantum Class offers activities and amenities for every type of cruiser. As the second biggest class of ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, Quantum Class ships are definitely not small, but they are not as large as the Oasis Class ships, either. One important difference is that Odyssey of the Seas has no indoor pool like the other Quantum Class ships. The pool deck on each Quantum Class features a casual dining venue, plenty of seating, and several bars.
Most of the incredible experiences on board take place indoors, though there’s a lot to have fun with out on deck as well – and the choice of destinations reflects that. The Quantum Class for Royal Caribbean was designed to create a ship that focussed on modern technology, introducing a number of new features into the fleet for the first time. Some of these have remained exclusive to the Quantum Class, while others have been incorporated into new Oasis-class ships launched since. Don't look to Ovation or Anthem of the Seas for low-cost cruises; prices for sailings on both ships are regularly among the line's highest.

As for entertainment, the Two70 interactive venue is one of the most technologically advanced spaces of its kind at sea, unique to Quantum and Quantum Ultra class ships. Ovation of the Seas is one of two Royal Caribbean ships to have Fish & Ships. Recently on Ovation of the Seas, Fish & Ships has offered both complementary and extra cost items, although the complimentary options are subject to change. Menu highlights included fish and chips, lobster roll, fried calamari, and a deep-fried candy bar. Oasis-class ships are essentially built with a view to being the biggest, with the most things to see and do.
Located next to Giovanni’s is Giovanni’s Wine Bar, where guests can enjoy a variety of Italian wines and small bites. El Loco Fresh is a casual pool deck lunch option that serves grab and go burritos and quesadillas as well as a taco and nacho bar. A topping station is available with a selection of salsas, guacamole, and hot sauce. Gold guests can choose to dine in the Gold Dining and Lounge restaurant on the ship’s top deck. They can also access The Balcony, which is an exclusive outdoor area also located on the top deck of Spectrum of the Seas.
